KingKids Bentleigh ELC - Open Door Session
Recently, Jo MacKenzie-King, Executive Director at KingKids and her team, opened the door of KingKids Bentleigh ELC to eager ACA Victoria members who had the opportunity to explore the new centre, network with other Approved Providers and learn about recruitment & staff retention.
Jo’s team formed a panel to discuss this all-important topic. They spoke about their approach to the recruitment process. KingKids look for passion in candidates and, once onboarded, offer mentoring programs to support and provide their staff with the skills & knowledge they require to do their jobs effectively.
Retaining valuable staff is even more critical and they summed up how they do this through a few key points:
Creating Core Values – having a shared and clear focus, be a good person, own positive change & be dedicated
Recognition – praising & thanking staff regularly so they feel valued & appreciated
Professional Development – allow staff to grow in their roles and give them something to aspire to & work towards, as well as filling any learning gaps
Team Building Activities – encourage staff to have fun, interact with each other & leave their work environment behind
Those in attendance sampled some delicious food courtesy of Kids Gourmet Food, which provide fresh, nutritious and creative meals to Early Learning Centres.
