Mask wearing rules change as of today

The following update has been provided by the Victorian Government for the early learning sector.

Following the Government’s announcements regarding new statewide restrictions that came into effect at 11:59pm on Wednesday 3 February, there is new guidance for early childhood education and care (ECEC) services regarding the wearing of face masks.

  • People aged 12 and over must wear a fitted face mask when in public indoor spaces, unless there is a lawful reason not to.

  • ECEC staff are not required to wear face masks while educating or caring, but those who wish to do so, can.

  • Staff must wear face masks in indoor areas of the service when not educating or caring.

  • Visitors to ECEC services must also wear face masks when indoors – this includes parents and carers.

Please ensure that everyone at your ECEC service is aware of the updated face mask requirements.

Please be aware that the Department’s dedicated Coronavirus (COVID-19) Phone Advice Line is available to you during business hours (8.30am to 5pm) on 1800 338 663.
