Xplor and QikKids launch platform to fill empty childcare places post COVID-19

15 July 2020

Leading childcare and early learning software providers Xplor and QikKids have today announced the launch of a new platform to deliver parents a new way to find childcare services that are COVID-19 safe. The new listing site will allow parents to compare services, directly enquire, book a tour or apply to a waitlist online, at no cost.

The cloud-based platform called ‘Space’ is eagerly welcomed following the Government’s recent announcement to end free childcare on 13 July[1], which will see childcare and early education services needing to connect more easily with parents to fill ad-hoc spaces as needed.

According to a recent IBISWorld report, the outbreak of COVID-19 has added to the sector’s surplus capacity and low occupancy challenge, and is expected to contribute to a revenue decline of 11.5 per cent in 2019-20.[2]

CEO of QikKids and Xplor, Mark Woodland, says Space will support the rebuilding of the sector post COVID-19.

For the first time ever, Space will be available to any childcare provider across Australia as part of a new initiative to help the sector rebuild, regardless of which Child Care Subsidy (CCS) or administration platform they currently use.

“In these challenging times, it’s vital to make it as simple as possible to connect Early Learning Centres with families needing quality childcare, and to help childcare centre owners to fill their unoccupied places,” Mr Woodland said.

For childcare services, Space offers an intuitive, cloud-based CRM system which will allow centres to easily manage enquiries online, whether working in the centre or remotely. Childcare services listed on Space will receive all new enquiries in real-time, alongside their enquiries from enrolled families.

“Whilst the fee-free period encouraged children to be in centres, it has made it increasingly difficult for centres to balance staffing ratios and fluctuations in demand for places,” Mr Woodland said.

“With the innovation and security of Space, we’re delivering real-time permanent, casual and ad-hoc enquiries to Early Learning Centres, allowing them to fill their open spaces, build their waitlists, and get the support and resources they need to promote their quality services more efficiently.”

Along with a free website plugin, which will allow them to easily add a new enquiry form on their website, Space also provides childcare services with the ability to send enquiry links, organise tour bookings, and capture enrolments directly in their CCS software.

“In giving parents a complete view of an Early Learning Centre, we are helping them make the best decision for their child. Space will help empower families to search and enrol in childcare services quickly and easily, without the unnecessary hassle of administration” says Mr Woodland.

Features for Parents

  • Using Space, parents can easily search the largest online database of 23,000 childcare services across Australia for permanent, casual and online care and early education options.
  • Parents can also book virtual and private tours with childcare services offering these options.
  • Space is offered to all parents without any fees.
  • Inquiries from parents working in essential services will be prioritised to help them find care quickly.
