Our most recent What’s on Your Mind? Member Forum on 11th September once again highlighted the power of creating a space where leaders can connect, share, and learn from one another. Hosted by ACA Victoria Board Members Brooke Eerden and Jenny Kearney, the online session gave ACA members the opportunity to speak openly about the issues shaping their services and teams right now.
One of the key themes was the Workforce Retention Payment (WRP), with members discussing the challenges of managing the payment schedule and navigating payments to staff. Brooke and Jenny led a thoughtful conversation about the different ways services are approaching this responsibility, ensuring staff are supported and fairly compensated.
The discussion then turned to child safety, particularly around upcoming outcomes, reviews, and key dates. Members reflected on how their services are preparing and what steps they are taking to ensure compliance while continuing to priorities the wellbeing of children and staff.
Another lively exchange centered on smart watches in services. Some Approved Providers shared how they have restricted the use of smart watches, reporting positive outcomes for staff focus and family confidence, while others explained the monitoring process they have in place. There was also valuable discussion about staff feedback, with some services noting how their teams are adapting to the new rules limiting or prohibiting smart watch use.
What made the session so impactful was the open and unscripted format- no presentation, no rigid agenda, just authentic conversation shaped by members. Brooke and Jenny created an environment where every participant could contribute, amking the forum not only informative but also supportive and collaborative.
