About the session: 1.00pm - 2.00pm Day 1

Dr Red Ruby Scarlet, Multiverse
Cultural Diversity: More Than A Salad Bowl!

Salad is good for you! There is no doubt, but when it comes to cultural diversity in early childhood curriculum, our ways into understanding cultural diversity need to reflect the beauty, nuance and injustice that cultural diversity encompasses. Drawing from principles of ‘inclusion’, the anti-bias goals and the EYLF, this workshop will invite participants to unravel what we mean by cultural diversity by looking at the history of why we need to have it as part of our curriculum.

This unravelling will enable deep understandings of what cultural diversity is and how to plan for it. Using current ‘Professional Expressions’ from her teaching, Dr Red Ruby Scarlet will illustrate the vastness of cultural diversity, theories that shape our understandings and stories that will prompt practices that honour cultural diversity in all its kaleidoscopic colour.
